Distance and journey time

Athens International Airport is about 33 km from Syntagma Square. By car the journey takes 35–45 minutes via the Attiki Odos motorway, longer at weekday rush hour.

Metro and bus

Metro Line 3 runs to Syntagma and Monastiraki in about 40 minutes, and the X95 bus runs 24 hours but can take over an hour. Both are good for light travellers, less so with suitcases or children.

Taxi

Athens taxis charge a flat rate from the airport to the centre, higher at night. Availability is usually good, but queues form at peak arrival times.

Private transfer

A private transfer takes you straight to your hotel door in Plaka, Koukaki or Kolonaki, with the driver waiting in arrivals. It's the most relaxing choice for families, late-night arrivals and groups.
