Why plan your airport transfer in advance
Greece has more than 15 international airports, and most of them are small, seasonal and extremely busy between June and September. Taxi queues at Santorini, Mykonos and Heraklion can easily reach an hour, and public buses rarely go door-to-door to resorts.
A pre-booked private transfer means a driver is waiting with your name before you even collect your bags, at a fixed price agreed before you travel.
Which airport should you fly into?
Athens (ATH) is the main hub and the gateway to Piraeus port and the Cyclades. Thessaloniki (SKG) serves Halkidiki. Crete has two main airports — Heraklion (HER) for the centre and east, Chania (CHQ) for the west. The Ionian islands have Corfu (CFU), Kefalonia (EFL), Zakynthos (ZTH) and Preveza (PVK) for Lefkada and Parga.
Taxi, bus or private transfer?
Taxis are fine for short trips if available, but prices often change at night and luggage space is limited. Buses are cheap but slow, especially with children or heavy bags. Private transfers offer fixed prices, child seats, meet & greet and vehicles sized to your group — from sedans to Mercedes Vito minivans.
