Island groups

The Cyclades (Santorini, Mykonos, Paros, Naxos, Milos, Ios) are linked by frequent ferries from Piraeus and Rafina. The Dodecanese (Rhodes, Kos) are best reached by air. The Ionian islands connect to the mainland via Kyllini, Patras and Igoumenitsa.

Ferries

Conventional ferries are cheaper and more stable; high-speed catamarans are faster but can be cancelled in strong winds, especially the August meltemi.

Connecting transfers

The most stressful part of island-hopping is getting between airport and port. A private transfer from Athens Airport to Piraeus takes about 45 minutes and drops you at the right gate.

Domestic flights

Short flights from Athens to Santorini, Mykonos, Paros, Naxos, Milos, Chios and Lesvos can save a day of travel.
